BURLINGTON,
NC
|
|
Once upon a time, before the factories were closed down and manufacturing was moved to the countries with super cheap labor, North Carolina was the woven fabric center of the world. And Burlington was probably the capital. Now you’ll see a lot of empty buildings but there are still some ‘factory outlets’ here. It’s your guess where the stuff is made but you can save a lot of money compared to what you would probably have to pay at a retail store at home. Visitors' Center - From I-40/85 take exit 145. If eastbound, turn left; if westbound,
turn right. Follow Maple Avenue toward downtown to Morehead Street. Note that there will be to streets to your right: Avon, a sharp right and Morehead, a 45o angle to the right. Follow Morehead to Lexington. The Burlington/Alamance County Convention and Visitors Bureau is just around the
corner to your left at 610 Lexington Avenue. Dentzel Menagerie Carousel - This completely restored, 1910 Dentzel Menagerie Carousel is cited as the "centerpiece of City Park". But to many, it is the centerpiece of Burlington. The kids ride on hand-carved animals (no two alike) and for just 50c a ride! |
