The Santa Barbara Mission
— is one of the more popular of the old
Spanish missions in California. It is still an active Roman Catholic church
but they conduct regular tours which include the chapel when masses are not
in progress.

The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden — is a unique 65 acre collection of native California flora. Some 5 miles of very easy-to-negotiate trails allow leisurely viewing. A newer addition (2003) is a Japanese Tea House. Not exactly native Californian but a quiet, enjoyable place to relax - even rest - after touring the Garden. The Garden's hours (Nov through Feb) are 9a-4p weekdays and 9a-5p weekends. In March through October they close one hour later. How to get there:
