On its way to join the
Petit Jean River, Cedar Creek drops off a 95-foot ledge into a deep, sandstone
bordered canyon that is as pretty as any you'll ever see. All this is in Petit
Jean State Park, easily accessed from I-40 at Russellville or Morrilton.
If you are westbound
on I-40, take exit 112 (Hwy-9) at Morrilton. Head south on Hwy-9, cross the Arkansas
River, and proceed to the intersection of Hwy-154 at Oppelo. Turn right (west) on 154 and follow it to the
Petit Jean State Park Visitors Center (about 20 miles). Stop in and let them
tell you about all the fascinating features of this park.
If you are eastbound
on I-40, take exit 81 (Hwy-7) at Russellville and follow it south to the
junction of Hwy-154 at Centerville. Turn left (east) on 154 and follow it to
Petit Jean State Park, continuing through the park to the Visitors Center
(about 15 miles from Centerville).
The park has a very
informative web site at: Petit
