Saint Mary Falls
Glacier National Park

St. Mary Falls is actually two waterfalls. The Saint Mary River makes a vigorous drop, pauses and then does another. This is just before the river empties into Saint Mary Lake so in June and early July there is a lot of water.

Trail head for St. Mary Falls (on the same trail as Virginia Falls) is at the Sun Point turnout (40.0 miles from West Glacier; 10.1 miles from Saint Mary). Head to the right at the lake to the base of Saint Mary Falls (an east 0.8 mile trail).

You can take a left and cross the Saint Mary River. You climb a little bluff from which you get a great view down Saint Mary Lake. A little bit further and the trail angles to the left, crosses the bridge at the base of Virginia Falls and then meanders along the shoreline of the lake to the other end. The lake is only about 10 miles long but we estimated the trail to be at least 12 miles. At Saint Mary you can take the boat back to the Rising Sun parking area and campground.
