Grand Falls, on the
Little Colorado River northeast of Flagstaff, is on the Navajo Indian
Reservation. This is hot, hot, hot in the Summer (Summers, here, seem to start
in May) but the best time to view the 185 foot Grand Falls is early in Spring
(March - April) when the falls are like a miniature Niagara Falls. How to Get There: From I-40, exit 211, drive through Winona (you will be on the Townsend-Winona Rd which is CR-394) and at almost 2 miles turn right on Leupp Rd (CR-419). Follow Leupp Rd about 13 miles (stay on the paved road!) to Grand Falls Rd (Reservation Road #70). There should be a sign to Grand Falls. Turn left, then right following Grand Falls Rd another 10 miles to the rim of the Little Grand Canyon. |
Navajo Parks and Recreation Department has a web site at www.navajonationparks.org. Though there is no information about Grand Falls on their site you will find a lot of very interesting background information about Monument Valley and other Navajo Reservation areas. For more information about Grand Falls and the Monument Valley phone 602-871-6647, or e-mail them at [email protected] or write to:
