Beartooth Falls
Shoshone National Forest
(near Beartooth Pass WY)

We had spent an enjoyable night at the Comfort Inn in Red Lodge (MT) on our way to Yellowstone from I-90. We filled up with gasoline, eats and information about the Beartooth Pass we were about to cross (it is over 10,000 feet high!).

The northern approach is an extended, uphill climb with some very tight hairpin curves and stunning views. It is easy to see why these mountains are called the Beartooth Range; they look like they're ready to take a bite out of the moon. As we started the descent out of the clouds (unfortunately, it was raining) we strained to see Beartooth Lake and, just beyond it, Beartooth Falls. We found it easily: no need to strain, you can't miss it. We were told there is a short trail to get a better view but decided we aren't that wash-and-wear having to sit in the car for a few more hours.

Note: right after the descent seemed to level off we passed another waterfall we hadn't been told about. It is just east of the WY-296 intersection.
