Yakso Falls
Yakso Falls, just off the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, is only 60 feet high but it is a good 25 feet wide, dropping in the shape of a fan. While there isn't a great flow of water (this is the 'Little' River), the flow is spread out so that it appears much larger than it really is. For photos of Yakso Falls, see: |
How to get there: Exit I-5 in Roseburg onto OR-138 and head east, across the river to OR-99. Here, OR-138 follows 99 north for a couple blocks and then goes east (right) again. It is about 18 miles to Glide and the North Umpqua Ranger District Office (18782 North Umpqua Hwy). Stop in, get loaded up with information - which will help increase your enjoyment of the coming sights. From the District Office head back toward Roseburg just 0.1 mile to Little River Rd (#17). Turn left onto Little River Rd and follow it (about 20 miles) where its name changes to 'Forest Service Road 27' (it also becomes gravel, here). It is 7 more miles to Lake in the Woods Campground parking area. The trail head is across the road from the parking area and is a very easy, 0.7 mile to the base of Yakso Falls. |
