Nambe Falls, situated
in the shadows of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains, spurts from
nowhere out of a cleft in the canyon wall. It is well worth the effort to get
to the 'park'. For many, this is the center of attraction in the Nambe
Recreation Area, a park owned and operated by the Nambe Indians on their
reservation. Several, well marked, trails lead to the floor of the canyon - or
view the falls from above.
There is a small
entrance fee. Camping sites are also available plus a few RV sites with
hookups. Plenty of hiking trails will keep you busy and if you care to fish
(state license not required but there is a fee payable to the Nambe Pueblo
Tribal Council) you can even rent boats (no motors allowed).
Take US-64/285 north
out of Sante Fe to Pojoaque Pueblo (about 15 miles). Continue 0.25 miles past
the intersection of NM-502 at Pojoaque Pueblo to NM-503. Turn right and folow
503 about 3 miles until you see the sign for Nambe Falls.
