Primarily known and
visited for its ancient pueblo ruins, there are two waterfalls of not not too
far from the Welcome Center in Frijoles Canyon. Just follow the 3-mile Falls
Trail loop which passes upper and lower falls to the conjunction of
Frijoles Creek with the Rio Grande in White Rock Canyon; then loops back to
the parking area. If you are also interested in the flora and geology along
the creek, we recommend you purchase the guide book at the Visitors Center.
Caution: As the season
progresses, parking in Frijoles Canyon becomes a matter of luck and many
visitors are turned away. That is a long trip just to get turned around. The
best time to view the waterfalls is in the late winter and early spring when
the water flow is at its maximum. Parking, then, is not as much of a problem.
This park is operated
by the National Park Service so the Golden Eagle Pass is accepted.
From Santa Fe, take
US-84/285 north to Pojoaque Pueblo. Turn left (west) on NM-502 and follow it
12 miles to NM-4. Turn left and follow NM-4 to the Park entrance road.
