Temperance River Falls

Calm and sedate? Well, mostly. But just a hundred yards or so from its mouth at Lake Superior are two thundering waterfalls: one just upstream of the Hwy-61 bridge and the other just beyond a footbridge downstream from the highway. But just a little further upstream the river is so calm it has become a very popular 'swimming hole'. Ah, nature!

Many trails on both sides of the Temperance River - including one crossing the footbridge barely above the lower falls - enables visitors many great views of the waterfall.

How to get there:

Temperance River State Park is on Hwy 61 about 77 miles from Duluth and is just northeast of Schroeder.
