Located
in the Bad Branch Nature Preserve on Pine Mountain (about 3 miles from
Whitesburg, KY), this 60 foot waterfall is the centerpiece of attraction of
Bad Branch Gorge. The
1-mile
footpath to the falls can be strenuous and hiking shoes are strongly
recommended. You can also continue another 2 miles to the
High Rock vantage point. The High Rock portion of the trail is especially
steep and, because of the dangerous cliffs, it is not recommended for younger
children.
Heading southbound on
US-119 from Whitesburg,
about 8 miles south of the junction of KY-15, turn left
onto KY-932. Continue another 2 miles on 932 to the gravel parking lot (it
will be on the left).
Bad
Branch Nature Preserve is open from dawn to dusk. There is no entrance fee.
Camping is prohibited. Also, please review other special regulations posted at
the trailhead. For example, be sure to pack out your trash and note well that
THE PRESERVE IS CLOSED TO VEHICLES. (GPS Coordinates for parking: N37º 04.314
W082º 46.314; USGS Quad: Whitesburg)
