There are many, many
waterfalls in California. Of course, there are many mountain streams and
rivers in California. But there are very few great waterfalls just an easy
walk from the parking area and it is rare to find one you can actually see
from the car. Here, in the Auburn State Recreation Area just east of
Sacramento, a couple miles from Interstate 80, is the 75 foot Devil's Falls -
and you can see it from your car!
This is 'American
River Country' but, because this is a waterfalls guide, we really should
digress. But the nature viewing opportunities along the American River are
truly exceptional and they are very accessible.
We have been unable to
find any web sites helping us describe Devil's Falls (but we did find one
photo). Information about the American River (including the Falls) can be had
from:
American River District
7806 Folsom-Auburn Road
Folsom, CA, 95630-1797
916-988-0205
How to get there:
From I-80 take the Foresthill Divide Road to Foresthill. Turn left at Gold Street. Go one block and Take Yankee Jim Road to Devil's Falls (you can view the waterfalls from the road).
